This project involves (1) characterization of the fluvial sandbodies that entered Eocene Lake Uinta, and (2) the development of sequence stratigraphic models for how the river-shoreline-lake system responded to high-frequency sediment-water discharge periods in a climate that was alternating wet and dry. Sinopec's interest in this comes from the fact that many of China's oil and gas reservoirs occur within river-lake basins, e.g. in the Bohai Bay area. The project also involves reservoir characterization workshops, in the Uinta Basin, for Chinese geologists.
